What’s taking up my hard drive space?

Keeping your Windows PC clean doesn’t have to be a pain, but it is necessary. There are lots of reasons why your hard drive might be full, and there are two free apps I use to help me find space, delete unnecessary files and clean up my hard drive.

For finding out what’s taking up all that space on my hard drive, I use Space Sniffer. For general cleaning, I use the excellent CCleaner.

Barnes & Noble introduces web-based Nook app

Nook iconPopular book retailer Barnes & Noble recently launched a web-based e-reader called Nook for Web. That puts them almost a year behind Amazon, which released the Kindle Cloud Reader back in August 2011.

Nook owners still have something to celebrate, as Nook for Web offers a lot of nice features for those who have an ample Nook Library they want to access via browser. This is also a great time for new potential Nook users to explore what Nook for Web has to offer.

Preview: Office 2013 gets serious about touch and the cloud

office 2013 iconMicrosoft announced Office 2013 in San Francisco today. Office 2013 marks a major overhaul of Office for Microsoft. Historically, Office has been a suite of desktop (and mobile) applications that allowed users to edit documents. Now with free competitors like Google Drive, Microsoft has to make Office relevant again.

The focus of today’s keynote was on Office 2013’s touch friendly interface and its reliance on the cloud. The whole Office interface has been redesigned with Metro flair and a tablet friendly interface. Microsoft’s SkyDrive cloud service will be the major backbone for putting Office 2013 in the cloud.

This is a great opportunity to buy some of the PC or Mac games that you may have missed in the past or just didn’t have to money to buy at the time. There are tons of different games on sale from arcade to racing simulators.

But this Steam summer sale is a bit different from those before. This is the first time that Steam is allowing users to vote on games that they want to go on sale. Rovio’s Amazing Alex available on iOS and Android

Rovio’s Angry Birds was one of the original success stories for gaming apps on mobile devices. The numerous variations from the original title spawned a flood of clones that used the same core gameplay, modified it to be similar or added small tweaks.

After Angry Birds Space, there was a teaser for Rovio’s new game, Amazing Alex. Released today for iOS and Android, Rovio uses the same level system that is in Angry Birds, but introduces an entirely new gameplay system for their game.

Tweetbot for Mac released

Tweetbot is a deservedly popular iOS Twitter client, and now you can try out the free alpha version of Tweetbot for Mac.

The official Twitter Mac app seems to have fallen behind the competition again, having not been updated for over a year, and doesn’t look great on the newer retina displays. Even in early alpha form, Tweetbot is a great client, and I think it’s much better for heavy Twitter users, as it’s got some great features.
