Since last May, the writers of the largest U.S. union, WGA, have been at odds with studios and major platforms. Similarly, actors from the SAG-AFTRA union, representing over 160,000 individuals, joined the planned protests a bit later.
The situation in Hollywood is more complex than ever, with dozens of projects canceled, many others delayed, and some impacted by promotions. However, there finally seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel. As reported by Variety, the CEOs of major platforms, including Ted Sarandos of Netflix and David Zaslav of Warner Bros. Discovery, are finally coming together to put an end to the disputes.

Resolution of the strike is still difficult, but not impossible
The resolution to the strikes doesn’t appear to be straightforward. After the WGA presented its proposal to the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers last Tuesday, the two sides seemed far apart in their views. In fact, they announced they were reluctant to negotiate with the unions. However, it seems that the situation is changing to put an end to this almost unprecedented crisis in the industry.
The CEOs have personally taken an interest in reaching an agreement, especially to tackle the challenges of the upcoming fall season. Currently, they are engaging in discussions amongst themselves to find a mutually beneficial solution that doesn’t leave them overly compromised. We’ll see if they finally yield or not, but there’s no doubt that Hollywood needs a change of direction soon to move forward in an industry facing increasingly significant challenges.
