To everyone’s surprise, the first global box office phenomenon of 2024 is turning out to be Inside Out 2. The Pixar sequel has surprised everyone with a titanic global reception, in addition to a very positive critical response from both the audience and the specialized press. However, it still lacked a record to confirm its great success: breaking the $1 billion barrier. And yes, it has already achieved it.
With the box office earnings from the last weekend, Inside Out 2 has reached $1.014.8 million, achieving a figure that seemed impossible before its release. Furthermore, it is getting closer to the $1.242.8 million earned by The Incredibles 2, currently the highest-grossing Pixar film of all time. If it surpasses it, it would take its place and directly compete against Frozen II, the highest-grossing animated film that earned $1.453 billion.
A new opportunity for Pixar
Undoubtedly, Inside Out 2 seems to be paving the way for the near future of Pixar. After going through a very bad time due to releases that went straight to platforms, it seems that things have finally changed for the studio behind Toy Story and company.
