Sigourney Weaver, undisputed icon of science fiction cinema thanks to her roles in the Alien and Avatar saga, has confirmed her participation in The Mandalorian & Grogu, the first film based on the successful Star Wars series. This news marks a milestone in Weaver’s career, and the certainty that the film will not be just another product in the franchise.
As she herself has confirmed, after several months of negotiations with Lucasfilm, the actress finally joins Disney’s galactic universe, generating great anticipation among fans. Weaver has revealed the news in an interview with Deadline, where she has expressed her enthusiasm for joining another one of the genre’s most iconic franchises.

Grogu meets Sigourney
“I’m going to play a role in The Mandalorian & Grogu. I met Grogu for the first time the other day. I’m filming the movie before traveling to London to shoot The Tempest at the end of the year,” the actress said. During the interview, Weaver highlighted how exciting it is to alternate between different cinematic universes, as well as how fun her experience has been so far in this new production.
The signing of Weaver not only brings a heavyweight figure to the film, but also reinforces Disney’s commitment to revive the Star Wars saga on the big screen after several years of focusing on the television format. Since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, the franchise had focused on series, but the arrival of an actress of Weaver’s caliber indicates that The Mandalorian & Grogu will be an ambitious project.

The movie, directed and co-written by Jon Favreau along with Dave Filoni, will be the first feature film of the franchise since 2019 and is scheduled to be released on May 22, 2026. Although details about her role in the movie are scarce, Weaver’s involvement suggests that her character could play a significant role in this new galactic adventure.
