Victoria Armstrong, <strong>a dead man\u2019s fianc\u00e9e, was left feeling disrespected and violated after Florida detectives tried to use his finger to unlock his cell phone<\/strong>. Linus Phillips was shot and killed by a police officer after he allegedly tried to drive away before an officer could search him. <strong>The two detectives then tasked with investigating the police shooting turned up at the funeral home<\/strong> were Phillips\u2019 body was being kept <strong>and held up his finger to the phone\u2019s fingerprint sensor. <\/strong>It didn\u2019t work.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_100252\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-100252\" style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-100252 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2018\/04\/TA-EN-news1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2018\/04\/TA-EN-news1.jpg 540w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2018\/04\/TA-EN-news1-300x167.jpg 300w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2018\/04\/TA-EN-news1-304x170.jpg 304w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-100252\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2018\/apr\/22\/florida-detectives-dead-mans-finger-unlock-phone\">The Guardian<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Despite Armstrong\u2019s protestations, <strong>legal experts claim that the behavior of the detectives was likely legal and above board.<\/strong> Dead people aren\u2019t entitled to their fourth amendment rights, which protect, <em>\u201ctheir persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures.\u201d <\/em>This, of course, is regarding trying to access the phone rather than using his dead finger to do so. On this, <strong>the person who inherits the phone could have a defense in court.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mostly, however, this is a tragic story that includes a grossly insensitive act.
