Ads just for you<\/h3>\n

Stop for a second and think about it: Every time you click \u201cLike\u201d on a page, Facebook records this action<\/strong> to then offer you targeted content. But who can even remember how many times they’ve clicked “Like” since first joining? The first step is to find your history.<\/p>\n

To do this, click the drop-down<\/strong> in the upper right corner and click\u00a0 Settings<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and then Ads<\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0located on the left side of the page:<\/p>\n

The first section shows \u201cYour interests,\u201d which is divided into \u201cNews and entertainment,\u201d \u201cBusiness and industry,\u201d \u201cSports and outdoors,\u201d \u201cPeople,\u201d \u201cTravel, places and events,\u201d and \u201cMore\u201d (which breaks down into ten additional subcategories).<\/p>\n

See the interests Facebook has pegged you to have, along with any advertiser you’ve interacted with.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In the next section, you can see \u201cAdvertisers you\u2019ve interacted with,\u201d while the following is \u201cYour information,\u201d i.e. data you’ve provided to\u00a0help advertisers target you.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s incredible all the info that you\u2019re finding out, right? Well, hold on, there\u2019s more:<\/p>\n

How to download your personal file<\/h3>\n

If you think what we’ve mentioned so far is a lot, there\u2019s an extra surprise: You can download a file with all the information about you that Facebook has collected since the day you first created an account.\u00a0<\/strong>And when we say everything<\/em>, we mean it: Comments, photos, publications, videos, likes and reactions, comments posted on any profile, Facebook Messenger messages, events, profile info, groups that you\u2019ve interacted with, etc. In other words, Facebook saves absolutely everything you do.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To access it,\u00a0\u00a0return to Settings<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and select Your Facebook information.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Want to view everything Facebook knows about you?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Here you can perform a number of functions, such as accessing your information, viewing your activity log, <\/strong>or even deleting your account.<\/strong>\u00a0To access all the dirt Facebook has on you, click ‘view’ where it says ‘Download Your Information.’ <\/strong>It will take you to this screen:<\/p>\n

Here you can filter exactly what data you’re trying to recover from Facebook. It can be only posts, only comments, friends you’ve made, and even your Marketplace activity. Scroll further down and you get to the really juicy stuff:<\/p>\n

Here you can toggle viewing and managing of the ads Facebook deems relevant to you.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Here you can access data pertaining to your search history on Facebook, calls and messages you’ve received,\u00a0<\/strong>and most notably\u00a0ads that Facebook deems relevant to you.<\/strong>\u00a0Click ‘Create File<\/strong>‘ at the top of the page and you’ll see everything Facebook knows about you. If you’re trying to target a certain time frame you can also adjust that up top:<\/p>\n

After a few minutes you’ll receive an email from Facebook with all the info organized<\/strong> by day, month, and year.<\/p>\n

And once you look through it, you may be convinced to chuck your\u00a0computer and your phone out the window and flee into the hills to become a tech-phobic hermit. Or maybe just be a little more careful with what you share with Zuckerberg & Co.<\/p>\n
