In this case, the French and German governments have seen fit to declare <a href=\"http:\/\/internet-explorer-8.en.softonic.com\/\"><strong>Microsoft Internet Explorer<\/strong><\/a> a security threat and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.certa.ssi.gouv.fr\/site\/CERTA-2010-ALE-001\/CERTA-2010-ALE-001.html\">issued<\/a> official statements advising users to switch to <a href=\"http:\/\/firefox-36.en.softonic.com\/\"><strong>Mozilla Firefox<\/strong><\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/google-chrome-beta.en.softonic.com\/\"><strong>Google Chrome<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Surprise surprise however; the British government has decided to go along with the Americans on this issue. The Americans being Microsoft and the issue being the gaping security holes in IE.<\/p>\n<p>The British government have decided <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/technology\/microsoft\/7025392\/UK-Government-will-not-warn-against-Internet-Explorer.html\">not to endorse<\/a> this view and recommended that instead users take a look at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.getsafeonline.org\/\"><strong>getsafeonline.org<\/strong><\/a>. And would you believe it, apart from sounding like some kind of online contraceptive, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.getsafeonline.org\/\">getsafeonline.org<\/a> has been set up by both the British government and Microsoft, amongst others.<\/p>\n<p>While I don&#8217;t generally agree with states sticking their nose in on such issues &#8211; and most are absolutely years behind on this one &#8211; I do think powerful interests need to take a stand against Microsoft. They have cunningly managed to ensure that Internet Explorer has found its way into almost every home computer by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_v._Microsoft\">bundling it with Windows<\/a> and it&#8217;s taken until the release of Windows 7 for users to be <a href=\"http:\/\/arstechnica.com\/microsoft\/news\/2009\/06\/windows-7-to-be-shipped-in-europe-sans-internet-explorer.ars\">spared<\/a> having it pre-installed when they purchase their machine.<\/p>\n<p>Ok, so I&#8217;m a Mac user and a bit biased on this issue.
