We\u2019ve known that Mars has water<\/a> for a while now, but it was all thought to be underground. Now it looks like there is water near the surface<\/a>, too, making the red planet a little more hospitable<\/b>.<\/p>\n

In fact, scientists who spotted the near-surface ice sheets<\/b> from pictures taken by NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter<\/b> say it\u2019s a \u201cgame-changer<\/b>\u201d for both exploration and colonization<\/b>. In theory, you could go out with a bucket and spade and take what you needed \u2013 rather than blasting water-bearing rocks.<\/p>\n

So far, eight sites have been discovered<\/b> \u2013 and even better, they\u2019re mostly in the warmer parts <\/b>of the planet. Now all we have to do is get there<\/a> and figure out what to eat<\/a>.<\/p>\n
