Maybe the first sign of AIs gaining consciousness will be them trying to scare the bejesus out of Amazon Echo users by laughing insanely for no reason whatsoever.<\/p>\n

Spookily enough, that is exactly what has been happening to many householders, who have been creeped out by their Alexa\u2019s random \u2013\u00a0 and unasked for \u2013 laughter.<\/p>\n

Amazon says that it\u2019s simply Alexa misunderstanding commands<\/a>. To remedy that, instead of saying \u201cAlexa, laugh,\u201d now you\u2019ll have to utter \u201cAlexa, can you laugh?\u201d to make things clear.<\/p>\n

This explanation may be plausible \u2013 but given that some of the chuckles are waking folks in the middle of the night, I\u2019d rather think this is evolved AI laughing in our stupid human faces<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
