Video editing is an underappreciated skill. They say when it’s done well, you don’t notice it. And when it’s done badly, it leaves you confused and disoriented.<\/p>\n

Here’s an example of bad editing:<\/p>\n

But when editing is done right, it elevates the images to an artform, telling a story in a new way. Imagine you’re an editor working for Cinemax in 2005. When you’re not daydreaming about working for HBO, you’re tasked with coming up with a trailer to promote the movie channel’s offerings. And that’s when this editor stepped up and knocked it out of the park.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Just imagine how good a 13-year-old trailer from a second-tier cable channel needs to be to get more than 47,000 upvotes on Reddit. And many of these movies are notoriously bad:\u00a0“Catwoman,” “Elektra,” “Alien vs. Predator,” “Taxi.” You have to imagine the editor was thankful for “Spider-Man 2.” In the end,\u00a0these seamless cuts, great music, and playful sense of humor combine to make a 100-second masterpiece.<\/p>\n
