A favorite quip comes from Steve Jobs \u2014 <strong>focusing is about saying no.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">If you feel overcommitted, it\u2019s important to know yourself well enough to figure out what\u2019s going to push you over the edge. Remember that no doesn\u2019t need to be nasty \u2014 it\u2019s about self-preservation.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">Learn to figure out if someone is taking advantage of you<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Sometimes people need help, others are trying to take advantage of you. It\u2019s important to know the difference. Master manipulators might use flattery to get you to do something they don\u2019t want to do; \u201cyou\u2019re so good at X thing, can you help me with X project?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">These people will attempt to pressure you into taking on a project without any regard to your schedule or whether or not this is something you want to do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">If you encounter this kind of behavior, it\u2019s important to remember you have a choice. But, there\u2019s no need to tell this long-winded story about why you can\u2019t. Otherwise, it feels like a lie.
