Now we&#8217;re talking!<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=buJPwD5nW1g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tom Riddle was taught how to create Horcruxes<\/a> by the unwitting Horace Slughorn, he sought to create six of them (his own self being the seventh), believing <a href=\"https:\/\/harrypotter.fandom.com\/wiki\/Seven\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">seven to be the strongest magical number<\/a>. To create it, he murdered <a href=\"https:\/\/harrypotter.fandom.com\/wiki\/Myrtle_Warren\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Myrtle Warren<\/a> and infused his soul into its pages, using the diary as a weapon to prey on people (like poor Ginny) years later.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The diary to me is a very scary object,&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.accio-quote.org\/articles\/2003\/0302-newsround-mzimba.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said J.K. Rowling<\/a> on the subject, &#8220;a really, really frightening object. This manipulative little book, the temptation particularly for a young girl to pour out her heart to a diary, which is never something I was prone to. You could understand when he started writing to see these things coming back to him, and the power of that, that secret friend in your pocket.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_135373\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-135373\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-135373\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2021\/05\/DiaryStabbed.jpg\" alt=\"Harry stabs Riddle diary Chamber of Secrets\" width=\"700\" height=\"324\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-135373\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Basilisk venom is one of the few sources potent enough to destroy a Horcrux<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After his battle with Voldemort and the Basilisk in &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/watch\/movie\/harry-potter-and-the-chamber-of-secrets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets<\/a>,&#8221;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=m1McjbWCvJw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Harry Potter stabbed the diary with the venomous fang of the serpent<\/a>, thus destroying the evil object. Dumbledore later kept its tattered remains in his office to study.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Marvolo Gaunt&#8217;s ring<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_135374\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-135374\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-135374\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2021\/05\/DumbledoreRing.jpg\" alt=\"Dumbledore ring\" width=\"700\" height=\"536\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-135374\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;I was unworthy to unite the Deathly Hallows &#8230; and here was final proof.&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Marvolo Gaunt&#8217;s ring was a very unique &#8211; and extremely powerful &#8211; object in that it was <em>both<\/em> a Horcrux <em>as well as<\/em> one of the three <a href=\"https:\/\/harrypotter.fandom.com\/wiki\/Deathly_Hallows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Deathly Hallows<\/a>. Passed down the line from Salazar Slytherin, the ring was stolen from <a href=\"https:\/\/harrypotter.fandom.com\/wiki\/Morfin_Gaunt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Morfin Gaunt<\/a> by a young Tom Riddle, at the same time that he murdered his own father and muggle grandparents. When Dumbledore tracked down the ring, he recognized that it was, in fact, the famed Resurrection Stone, the Hallows he&#8217;d been searching most of his life for. In wearing the dark object, he was cursed &#8211; it would have been fatal were it not for the quick intervention of Snape. Even so, it left Dumbledore with only one year of life, as he explains in &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/watch\/movie\/harry-potter-and-the-half-blood-prince\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.<\/a>&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_135375\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-135375\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-135375\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2021\/05\/MarvoloGauntRing.jpg\" alt=\"Horcrux Ring Half-Blood Prince\" width=\"700\" height=\"438\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-135375\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The ring was too tempting a prize for both Dumbledore and Voldemort.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Uncovering what the ring was, Dumbledore used the sword of Godric Gryffindor to destroy it. He then took the Resurrection Stone and placed it inside the Snitch, as a gift to Harry Potter &#8211; to be opened only after accepting that he must die at the hands of Voldemort.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Slytherin&#8217;s Locket<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_135376\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-135376\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-135376\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2021\/05\/UmbridgeLockeg.jpg\" alt=\"Umbridge Deathly Hallows locket\" width=\"700\" height=\"471\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-135376\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Umbridge wore the locket while doling out sentences to half-bloods.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One of the most infamous of the Horcruxes, a locket was found by Harry and Dumbledore during their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KmdBHOUCDnM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">final adventure together<\/a> &#8211; to the cave where Riddle often went in his youth. Tragically, thought this adventure drained even more life from Dumbledore, <strong>the locket was a fake<\/strong>. The real horcrux was in the Ministry of Magic, where it was kept by a mysterious <a href=\"https:\/\/harrypotter.fandom.com\/wiki\/Regulus_Black\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Regulus Arcturus Black<\/a>, before falling into the hands of Dolores Umbridge.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_135377\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-135377\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-135377\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2021\/05\/Locket.jpg\" alt=\"Harry Potter locket Half-Blood Prince Deathly Hallows Horcrux\" width=\"700\" height=\"393\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-135377\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;&#8230; there was nothing inside but for a scrap of folded parchment wedged tightly into the place where a portrait should have been.&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After obtaining the locket, Harry, Ron, and Hermione still lacked the means of finding it. This resulted in them having to share turns wearing the dark artifact. Eventually,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3-eNRHWRhLI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Snape&#8217;s patronus led Harry to the sword of Godric Gryffindor<\/a> &#8211; the key to destroying Horcruxes. Shortly after, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=D1XUfFnmflU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ron uses the sword<\/a> to break the Horcux.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Hufflepuff&#8217;s Cup<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_135378\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-135378\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-135378\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2021\/05\/Hepzibah.jpg\" alt=\"Hepzibah Smith Harry Potter\" width=\"700\" height=\"536\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-135378\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The keeper of both Salazar&#8217;s locket and Hufflepuff&#8217;s goblet<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Tom Riddle actually acquired two Horcruxes in <a href=\"https:\/\/harrypotter.fandom.com\/wiki\/1961\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1961<\/a> from the same woman: <a href=\"https:\/\/harrypotter.fandom.com\/wiki\/Hepzibah_Smith\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hepzibah Smith<\/a>. Infatuated with the young Riddle, Hepzibah imprudently showed him both Salazar&#8217;s locket and Hufflepuff&#8217;s goblet when he came over to visit on behalf of <a href=\"https:\/\/harrypotter.fandom.com\/wiki\/Caractacus_Burke\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Caractacus Burke<\/a>. Riddle poisoned Hepzibah and framed her house-elf for the crime, using her death to infuse the goblet with part of his soul.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_135379\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-135379\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-135379\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2021\/05\/HufflepuffCup.jpg\" alt=\"Harry Potter Deathly Hallows vault\" width=\"700\" height=\"350\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-135379\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The trio search Lestrange&#8217;s vault for the infamous goblet.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Voldemort gave the cup to <a href=\"https:\/\/harrypotter.fandom.com\/wiki\/Bellatrix_Lestrange\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bellatrix Lestrange<\/a> to hide in her vault at Gringotts. The trio infiltrated the bank and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_eZeYq2r3tM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">broke into her vault to obtain the cup<\/a>. It was lost for centuries before it became a Horcrux.&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Voldemort had a tendency to favor the original founders of Hogwarts when he looked for artifacts of power strong enough to house his soul. From Rowena Ravenclaw, he took a diadem. After finding the tiara and killing an Albanian merchant to infuse his soul into it, Riddle then chose to hide the tiara back where he&#8217;d originally uncovered it: Hogwarts, in the <a href=\"https:\/\/harrypotter.fandom.com\/wiki\/Room_of_Requirement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Room of Requirement<\/a>. Crabbe and Goyle find Harry in the room, and in the ensuing fight the room, along with the diadem, is <strong>destroyed by Fiendfyre<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>6. Nagini<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_135381\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-135381\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-135381 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2021\/05\/Nagini.jpg\" alt=\"Nagini Deathly Hallows opening scene\" width=\"700\" height=\"370\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-135381\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;Dinner, Nagini,&#8221; said Voldemort softly.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After his attempt to kill the infant Harry, Voldemort was severely weakened. In the woods of Albania, the phantom-like form of Voldemort tried to inhabit animals to survive, but <strong>only snakes could bear having him inhabit them<\/strong>. Neville, however, was able to kill it during the Battle at Hogwarts, decapitating it with the Sword of Gryffindor.<\/p>\n<h3>The seventh Horcrux?<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_135384\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-135384\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-135384\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2021\/05\/HarryPotterHorcrux.jpg\" alt=\"Harry Forbidden Forest Voldemort Deathly Hallows\" width=\"700\" height=\"510\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-135384\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Harry going to meet his fate in the Forbidden Forest<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There was never meant to be a seventh Horcrux. Voldemort meant to maintain his own body as the seventh, maintaining what he believed to be a number of power. When he attempted to murder the infant Harry Potter, however, <strong>he accidentally turned Harry into a Horcrux himself<\/strong>, leaving him with the lightning bolt scar.
