{"id":14815,"date":"2011-02-02T18:01:43","date_gmt":"2011-02-02T17:01:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onsoftware.en.softonic.com\/?p=14815"},"modified":"2025-07-02T02:05:07","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T09:05:07","slug":"a-new-interface-design-for-google-docs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms-articles.softonic.io\/en\/a-new-interface-design-for-google-docs\/","title":{"rendered":"A new interface design for Google Docs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you\u2019re an enthusiastic <a href=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\"><strong>Google Docs<\/strong><\/a> user like me, you\u2019ll be happy to know that our favorite online document editor just got a facelift.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14830\" title=\"docs01\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2011\/02\/docs011.jpg\" alt=\"Google Docs\" width=\"492\" height=\"443\" srcset=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2011\/02\/docs011.jpg 492w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2011\/02\/docs011-300x270.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 492px) 100vw, 492px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The new Google Docs design is much more similar to Gmail now, with a sidebar on the left featuring quick accesses to the Home page, the Trash and the list of starred items, and a couple of handy buttons to create new documents or upload them from your hard drive. <strong>Home<\/strong> can be configured to show only the documents you want to see.<\/p>\n<p>Another new feature in Google Docs is <strong>collections<\/strong>. You can now organize documents in collections, and easily share them with your friends. Also, <strong>filters<\/strong> have been improved: the top tab bar already lets you filter by type \u2013 separating documents from images and videos \u2013 and the <strong>More options<\/strong> tab gives you more possibilities to filter files: by visibility or ownership.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14831\" title=\"docs02\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2011\/02\/docs021.jpg\" alt=\"Google Docs\" width=\"600\" height=\"310\" srcset=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2011\/02\/docs021.jpg 600w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2011\/02\/docs021-300x155.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, if you click anywhere in the row of a given file (not the title, as that will open it) you\u2019ll see a <strong>details pane<\/strong> on the right, displaying information about the selected file: who\u2019s got access to it, in which collection it is stored and when it was last viewed or modified, along with a small preview of the document\u2019s content.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you\u2019re an enthusiastic Google Docs user like me, you\u2019ll be happy to know that our favorite online document editor just got a facelift.
