Initially, it was used as an easy way for Valve to release updates for their games. However, it has grown in recent years and now includes many games from different studios as well. <\/span><\/p>\n

However, like many forms of software, <\/span>Steam<\/span> is not without its errors. Today we will be looking at the <\/span>Steam<\/span> disk <\/span>write error<\/span>. In this case, the <\/span>disk referred to is the folder<\/span> your games are downloaded to. This error usually appears when you are downloading or installing a new game. Or if your game has an <\/span>update required<\/span>. Your <\/span>download will be paused<\/span> during this error.<\/span><\/p>\n

How to Fix Steam Disk Write Error<\/b><\/h2>\n

Step 1: Restart Computer and Steam<\/b><\/h3>\n

First, try restarting your computer and <\/span>Steam<\/span> to see if this resolves the error. If the error persists, move on to step two.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 2: Remove Write Protection<\/b><\/h3>\n

Write protection prevents you from changing or adding any files to a folder or drive. Check to see which drive your <\/span>Steam<\/span> games are saved to. You should see if this <\/span>Steam folder<\/span> or <\/span>drive<\/span> is write-protected and can disable the write protection for this particular <\/span>drive<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 3: Delete Corrupted Files<\/b><\/h3>\n

If something goes wrong while you are downloading or installing a <\/span>Steam<\/span> game, this may leave a corrupted file in the <\/span>Steam<\/span> drive<\/span> that causes disk <\/span>write errors<\/span>. To see if there are any, go to the <\/span>Steam folder<\/span> and open the Steamapps\/common folder. Delete any f<\/span>iles that are 0kb in size as these are corrupt files<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Step 4: Clear the Steam Download Cache<\/b><\/h3>\n

The <\/span>Steam<\/span> download cache may be corrupted. To clear your <\/span>Steam<\/span> download cache, go to your <\/span>Steam<\/span> \u2018Settings,\u2019 and then choose \u2018Downloads\u2019 and finally \u2018Clear Cache.\u2019 Clearing this cache should resolve the issue.<\/span><\/p>\n
