Google announced that a new email template<\/strong> is rolling out for Google Docs<\/a> soon, integrating with Gmail<\/a> and allowing users to create email drafts via Google Docs\u2019 @ menu<\/strong>. This feature will also allow collaboration between users<\/strong> and joint drafting on emails before they get published. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the Google apps\u2019 capabilities are noteworthy enough to make G Suite<\/strong> and Workspace<\/strong> a top contender for online productivity programs, there is still much to improve about the apps\u2019 interaction with each other. This upcoming integration between Docs and Gmail is definitely a step in the right direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google Docs has a cool feature called the \u201c@ menu<\/strong>\u201d, which displays shortcuts and items you can insert. This includes links to your files, images, and formatting. One of the things it can add is Building Blocks<\/strong>, which integrates options from other Google apps. With the upcoming feature, you can now insert an email template<\/strong> onto a document and start drafting an email without opening Gmail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To use it, either type \u201c@email\u201d to insert the template or click the \u201cInsert\u201d function on the toolbar, then choose \u201cBuilding Blocks\u201d and \u201cEmail draft.\u201d It will then display email recipient fields<\/strong>, which are To, Cc, Bcc, Subject, and a blank space for the body. You can easily add email addresses here by simply typing \u201c@\u201d and their names. Additionally, Google Docs\u2019 comment and suggestion features work here<\/strong>, so users can collaborate on the draft in real-time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you\u2019re finished, click on the Gmail \u201cM\u201d icon<\/strong> on the top-left of the template to open Gmail \u201cCompose Email.\u201d This will automatically fill in<\/strong> all fields with what you wrote so it\u2019s ready to be sent. This new feature will be available for all Google Workspace and legacy G Suite Basic and Business users over the coming weeks.
