Ever since Facebook\u2019s rebrand to Meta, the tech corporation has been pushing this new image of being at the leading edge of the metaverse. A big part of this metaverse strategy revolves around gaming as video game worlds offer us the most complete glimpse into what the metaverse could actually become. It is in this context that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced a new Facebook Gaming partnership with Crayta<\/strong>, a game design platform.<\/p>\n\n\n

When you think of game design platforms that allow you to build games and share them with your friends, the obvious candidate you would think about is Roblox<\/a>. Crayta, which debuted on Google Stadia before also launching on the Epic Games Store<\/a> shares elements of Roblox but has a much more rounded and polished aesthetic<\/strong>. In essence, it allows users to create games that look like regular games rather than looking like Roblox games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The partnership means that Crayta will be joining the Facebook Gaming<\/a> library<\/strong>, bringing with it the chance for Facebook users to create their very own gaming worlds <\/strong>or metaverses, if you will. According to Meta:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCrayta allows anyone to flex their creativity and build their own worlds. Providing an easy-to-use developer toolkit and maximizing current cloud-streaming technology, Crayta makes game creation more accessible and easy to use whether building on mobile or desktop. [The platform brings] vast array of detailed meshes and voxel materials for creators to build with.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As well as the creative toolbox, Crayta also comes loaded with a huge library of customizable items<\/strong>, which means players can simply jump right in and concentrate on their own avatars<\/strong> rather than having to create games or worlds of their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This move from Meta makes a lot of sense as it continues to push Facebook away from its tarnished past and towards the bright new light that the rebranded company is pinning all of its hopes on. It still remains to be seen, however, as to whether it will ever be able to leave that past behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
