Security software provider Emsisoft\u2019s free Browser Security Chrome extension<\/strong> is a lightweight addon that creates an additional security layer<\/strong> between your browser and harmful websites. It helps keep you safe from phishing attacks and online malware<\/strong> without giving up your privacy.<\/p>\n\n\n

This guide will show you how to install and use the extension.<\/p>\n\n\n

  1. Install the Emsisoft Browser Security extension in your Chrome browser<\/h2>\"Download

    Download the Emsisoft Browser Security extension. Click on the blue Add to Chrome<\/i> button on the right. When the prompt pops up asking for confirmation, click Add extension<\/i>.<\/p>\n

    Once the extension has been successfully installed, it will run quietly as a subroutine<\/strong> while you browse.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/li>

  2. Get to know the website blocked page<\/h2>\"Websites

    If you try to visit a site it detects as malicious, the extension will display its Website blocked<\/i> page and prevent you from accessing the site<\/strong>. The Website blocked<\/i> page shows you the malicious site\u2019s URL along with the reason Emsisoft blocked it.<\/p>\n

    If you think they got it wrong, you can click on Report an error<\/i> at the bottom of the page to add the site to your Exclusions<\/i> list and send the URL to Emsisoft\u2019s security team to double check it. You can also click Visit the site anyway<\/i> to mark it as safe on your computer<\/strong> without sending a report.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/li>

  3. Learn the extension\u2019s basic features<\/h2>\"Report

    You can turn the Browser Security extension on and off or customize it by clicking on its icon in your Chrome extensions bar to the right of your address bar. The icon looks like a light blue shield on a dark blue background.<\/p>\n

    The extension is enabled by default. To turn it off, toggle the green switch labeled Block dangerous websites<\/i> in the extension\u2019s popup menu. The switch will turn red when the extension is disabled.<\/p>\n

    The popup menu also gives you two other options:<\/p>\n

      You can see the list of sites that Browser Security wants to block but that you\u2019ve decided to visit anyway by clicking on Manage exclusions<\/i>. This list will automatically synchronize across any device<\/strong> where you use your Chrome account.<\/p>\n
