When you\u2019re trying to demonstrate a particular process, function, or utility to someone who has no previous experience with it, the best way to do so is by using visual aids<\/strong>. If you have to do this on a daily basis like we choose to do with our how-to guides, much like the one you\u2019re reading, you need a proper screen recorder and media management tool. Surprisingly, Snagit <\/strong>can help in that regard.<\/p>\n\n\n

In the tutorial below, we\u2019ll show you how to use screenshots you\u2019ve taken with Snagit to create a<\/strong> compelling and informative video<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

  1. Select your images<\/h2>\"Use

    Head to your library or tray where all your images are stored, and then <\/span>Ctrl-click<\/b> on all of the images you want to use in your video. If you\u2019re using a Mac, you\u2019ll need to <\/span>Command-click<\/b>. Next, you need to hit <\/span>Create<\/b>, and then choose Video from Images from the drop-down menu. Click <\/span>Create Video<\/b> from Images to confirm this step. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/li>

  2. Organize images<\/h2>\"Use

    Once you\u2019ve confirmed your selection of images in the previous step, you\u2019ll see the <\/span>Recording <\/b>toolbar appear. You\u2019re essentially recording a video composed of the images you\u2019ve selected, so don\u2019t be alarmed by the recorder\u2019s sudden appearance. You\u2019ll also see an interface where you can drag images around to reorder them within the tray. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/li>

  3. Change settings<\/h2>\"Use

    Now, you\u2019ll need to head to the <\/span>Recording <\/b>toolbar and select the recording options. From here, you can change the color of the resultant video\u2019s background, among other options.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Pro tip<\/b>: If you want to increase the contrast of the video, use dark or light colors such as dark blues, pure black, or stark white instead of colours like red or green.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    You can also choose whether or not to record the movement of your cursor<\/strong> during the video. Another option is whether to record audio from your PC\u2019s built-in microphone or a third-party external input device such as a microphone connected via USB.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    The last options you\u2019ll want to review in this interface all revolve around the actual visual recording<\/strong>. Here, you\u2019ll be able to choose to display the feed from a connected or buit-in webcam during your recording, and whether you want the webcam footage to display as picture-in-picture. If you choose to display your webcam feed this way, you\u2019ll also need to confirm where the picture-in-picture display should appear. You can do this by dragging the sample display to the desired space and then dragging one corner to alter the display\u2019s size.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/li>

  4. The recording phase<\/h2>

    Once you\u2019ve finalized all the necessary settings, you\u2019re ready to begin recording. All you need to do to initiate a recording is press the red record button picture above. Alternatively, you can also hit <\/span>Shift+F9<\/b> on Windows systems or<\/span> Control+Shift+Space<\/b> if you\u2019re using a Mac.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Recording speed<\/span><\/h3>\n

    While you\u2019re recording, you have full control over the speed at which the images will change during the video. This is helpful if you\u2019re trying to create a visual asset to use during a speech or presentation. All you need to do is hit either of the <\/span>arrows <\/b>pictured above to cycle forward or backwards between your selected images.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Pausing<\/span><\/h3>\n

    You can also pause the recording at any time by simply hitting the pause button, also pictured above. Alternatively, you can press <\/span>Shift+F9<\/b> again to pause your recording on Windows, or <\/span>Control+Shift+Space<\/b> if you\u2019re using a Mac.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Quick Style banner<\/span><\/h3>\n

    There are a few additional features you can use to create a more <\/span>compelling or demonstrative<\/b> video. All of these features appear under the Quick Style banner in the toolbar. From here, you can add arrows to specifically direct viewers\u2019 attention to a particular portion of the frame, or you can highlight various parts of the resultant video by encircling them or placing them within a frame. You can also add a whole host of other annotations to increase the visual impact your video has and ensure that viewers focus on what you deem to be the most important parts of the video.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Top tip<\/b>: Add Quick Styles to your Favorites collection before you begin a recording. This way, you\u2019ll have all your favorite annotations at your fingertips during a recording.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Adjust zoom<\/span><\/h3>\n

    If you\u2019re using Snagit within Windows, you can alter the zoom factor or the dimension of the current image if you deem it necessary. Unfortunately, you <\/span>cannot do this on Mac<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/li>

  5. Finish recording<\/h2>

    Once you\u2019re happy with your initial recording, you can press the Stop button to cease and save your progress. Alternatively, you can hit <\/span>Shift+F10<\/b> on Windows or <\/span>Control+Shift+V<\/b> if you\u2019re using a Mac.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    When you\u2019re done, your newly recorded MP4 video will appear in your tray.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/li><\/ol><\/div>
