Musk has threatened to pull his $44 billion offer for the social network if Twitter can\u2019t prove that it is actively moving to solve the problem. The network has also reiterated its claims that bot accounts <strong>make up less than 5% of users<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Going through the processes of how they remove these accounts, Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/twitter-says-it-removes-over-1-million-spam-accounts-each-day-2022-07-07\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> that human reviewers are manually <strong>examining thousands of Twitter accounts at random all the time<\/strong>. They use a c<strong>ombination of publicly available and private data<\/strong> to help them work out the number of bot accounts on the network, in relation to typical human accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As to whether this will please Musk is anybody\u2019s guess as nobody is really even sure if he actually wants to buy Twitter anymore. Also, Twitter says that<strong> it isn\u2019t really possible for external companies to run audits<\/strong> on the number of bot accounts that exist on the app as it would mean <strong>private data would have to be shared.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We suspend over half a million spam accounts every day, usually before any of you even see them on Twitter. Agrawal tweeted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cWe suspend over half a million spam accounts every day, usually before any of you even see them on Twitter. We also lock millions of accounts each week that we suspect may be spam \u2013 if they can\u2019t pass human verification challenges (captchas, phone verification, etc).\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This would indicate that in the space of a couple of months there are either twice as many bots or Twitter has doubled its efforts.
