Now in its 18th edition, it lets teams collaborate while editing and making color adjustments to images and videos. We\u2019ll give you a few steps for <strong>how to use DaVinci Resolve<\/strong>, and then the rest is up to you. We could produce an entire book with details on each tool, but for now, we\u2019ll simply present the basics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to use DaVinci Resolve<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before we head into the steps, we need to add a small note about <strong>downloading and installing DaVinci Resolve<\/strong>. There are free and paid versions, depending on what you need it for. It doesn\u2019t matter which one you use, you\u2019ll have to register with Black Magic Design with some information before you can receive the video editor.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"howto_container schema-howto-acf-block\"><ol><li><div class=\"howto_item\"><h2>Starting a project<\/h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2022\/08\/How-to-use-DaVinci-Resolve-1.jpg\" alt=\"How to use DaVinci Resolve\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you have DaVinci Resolve installed on your PC, it\u2019s time to <\/span><b>start your project<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. There are two ways you can accomplish this. The Project Manager screen appears when you open the video editor. You\u2019ll notice Untitled Project to the right and New Project on the bottom right, and each one has a different result.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you select Untitled Project, you\u2019ll get started with your video immediately while <\/span><b>giving it a name<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when you try to save it. On the other hand, New Project will first ask you for a name before you begin. Either way works fine.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/li><li><div class=\"howto_item\"><h2>Importing media<\/h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2022\/08\/How-to-use-DaVinci-Resolve-2.jpg\" alt=\"How to use DaVinci Resolve\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s time to give DaVinci Resolve the media you want to use for the video. These can be in the form of videos, images, sounds, music, and many others. You\u2019ll notice that there\u2019s a <\/span><b>Media Page<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that lets you drag-and-drop media from folders, or you can browse and click on the files directly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you add videos, you may receive a message about changing the framerate for all videos to be the same. Explaining why this is essential and how it works in detail requires a more advanced guide. For now, all you need to know is that beginners should <\/span><b>work with the same framerate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to make video editing on DaVinci Resolve easier.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/li><li><div class=\"howto_item\"><h2>Creating the timeline<\/h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2022\/08\/How-to-use-DaVinci-Resolve-3.jpg\" alt=\"How to use DaVinci Resolve\" width=\"1200\" height=\"631\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s where things get tricky. You\u2019re entering the actual <\/span><b>video-editing phase<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on DaVinci Resolve. We recommend entering the Editing Page, as the Cut Page is more for advanced users. As a beginner, the former has a more simplified process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the Editing Page, you have several sections. The <\/span><b>Media section<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has all your images and other content that you uploaded in the previous step. If you want to view videos or photos before you place them on the timeline, you can do so in the <\/span><b>Source Viewer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The <\/span><b>Timeline<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is where you\u2019ll place all your items in the right order.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll find an <\/span><b>Effects Library<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where you can add transitions and other effects, which we\u2019ll touch on a bit later.\u00a0 There\u2019s also an <\/span><b>Inspector<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> too, where you can fiddle with some of the content settings. Finally, the <\/span><b>Mixer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is where you can adjust and mix music and sounds.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/li><li><div class=\"howto_item\"><h2>Performing edits<\/h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2022\/08\/How-to-use-DaVinci-Resolve-4.jpg\" alt=\"How to use DaVinci Resolve\" width=\"1200\" height=\"631\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s best to add some <\/span><b>ins and outs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on images or videos before you place them on the timeline. In this way, you can place them on the timeline with the end of one media touching the start of the next one. If you\u2019re adding videos, you can trim them down to only show the portions you want.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We would have to make a more advanced guide that deals with all the <\/span><b>editing tools<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> available for making a top-quality video. The most important part is that you place the media in the right order. Feel free to play around with some of the effects and tools to get the hang of editing your content.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/li><li><div class=\"howto_item\"><h2>The final touches: effects, transitions, and exporting<\/h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2022\/08\/How-to-use-DaVinci-Resolve-5.jpg\" alt=\"How to use DaVinci Resolve\" width=\"749\" height=\"414\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019re almost near the end of your first experience with DaVinci Resolve. You can now <\/span><b>add any effects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> you want to your video from the library. You can also place titles over your images or within the video on the clips, or transitions between clips on the timeline.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you\u2019re ready to <\/span><b>finalize your project<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, head to the Delivery page. The process of making the video is called Rendering. You might be able to work on a few settings, but you\u2019ll be unable to edit the timeline in this phase. Be sure to check the requirements of the platform you plan to upload when changing the settings. There are so many tools, it basically combines the functions of several apps into one.
