The retweet is one of the defining features of Twitter. Even Facebook has the share post button that will repost somebody else\u2019s Facebook post to your own Facebook timeline. Instagram, however, has never had such a feature, perhaps leaning into the narcissism the platform so effectively promotes. However, this looks set to change as it appears that Instagram will soon start testing a repost feature<\/strong>. Here is what you need to know.<\/p>\n\n\n

According to a report by TechCrunch, Instagram is preparing to test a new feature that will give users the ability to repost other people\u2019s posts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As with most of these new social media leaks, the advance feature was first spotted by keen-eyed social media specialist Matt Navarra<\/a> who tweeted about it earlier this week. The screenshot Navarra shared, which you can see above, shows what appears to be a new Repost icon that sits above the media gallery <\/strong>on your account. It is highly likely that the icon will open up a new Repost tab that will be home to all the posts that users decide to repost to their own accounts.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to TechCrunch<\/a> via an email, a Meta spokesperson confirmed the news, saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re exploring the ability to reshare posts in Feed \u2014 similar to how you can reshare in Stories \u2014 so people can share what resonates with them, and so original creators are credited for their work [\u2026] We plan to test this soon with a small number of people.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fact that the feature is still to go to testing and will start with tests of a small group of users means it is highly likely that we are still months away from seeing the new repost feature getting a wider rollout<\/strong> and landing on everybody\u2019s version of the app. Stick with us, however, and we will keep you updated so that you never miss a breaking story from all your favorite apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
