As many Google Chrome extension developers already know, the company\u2019s latest MV3 API is designed to protect everyone\u2019s privacy on the browser. Introduced in 2018, Manifest V3 has already started accepting new extensions with MV2 coming to a stop. However, it seems that ad blockers won\u2019t be able to perform their functions<\/strong> due to some imposed limitations.<\/p>\n\n\n

Why do we think so? You may know a popular Google Chrome extension by the name of uBlock Origin<\/a>. Raymond Hill is the architect behind the design, who made a new version commit<\/a> on GitHub. In one of the comments, he recommended users continue with the MV2 edition<\/strong>, as the MV3 update might not work. He cited that the MV3 API has too many limitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s one issue with this recommendation, though. If you look at the Manifest V3 details<\/a> for Google Chrome extensions, you\u2019ll notice that the store won\u2019t accept any more updates in MV2. That means these old versions may become obsolete by 2023, and you\u2019ll need to move to MV3 extensions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what does this all mean for Google Chrome users? Well, while it\u2019s protecting your privacy<\/strong> more, your ad blockers might not work from next year onwards. You\u2019ll need to deal with adverts or website redirections. Of course, there is a different solution: installing a VPN<\/a> and hiding your I.P address and personal details from third parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With so many trusted Google Chrome extensions stealing millions of data, I\u2019m sure many of you are looking forward to MV3. We\u2019ll have to wait and see how many adverts appear<\/strong>, but here\u2019s hoping ad blocker developers can find a solution. I\u2019m currently using a built-in ad blocker with Avast Secure Browser<\/a>, and I\u2019m wondering if MV3 will have any effect on the Chromium system.<\/p>\n\n\n
