My anguish was short-lived as I found an old webcam in a box from my sister\u2019s <strong>tech-heavy <\/strong>early career as a junior developer, but the software was outdated.  Luckily, I then discovered <strong>how to use DroidCam<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to use DroidCam on your device<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"howto_container schema-howto-acf-block\"><ol><li><div class=\"howto_item\"><h2>Download DroidCam<\/h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2022\/09\/How-to-Use-DroidCam-1.jpg\" alt=\"How to Use DroidCam\" width=\"512\" height=\"233\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll need to download two utilities to get this process to work properly. First of all, you\u2019ll need the DroidCam Android app<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Next, you need to head to your PC and download the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DroidCam utility for Windows<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Installing these utilities is<\/span><b> incredibly easy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but in case this is your first time downloading utilities from our website, here\u2019s a quick guide:<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Android<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All you need to do is hit the download button. The website may direct you to a download page where you\u2019ll need to select the latest version of the app or whether you want to download the file as an <\/span><b>APK or XAPK<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Next, you should see a little pop-up at the top of your Android device letting you know that the utility is being downloaded. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From there, all you need to do is c<strong>lick on the notification<\/strong> and then hit install. If you accidentally swipe the notification away, you\u2019ll just need to head into your file manager of choice, click on downloads, and then hit the DroidCam APK or XAPK file. You\u2019ll then need to hit <\/span><b>install<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and then you\u2019re done!<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Windows<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Simply click download and <strong>select the appropriate version<\/strong> for your PC. Next, you\u2019ll want to click on the download at the bottom of your screen, or in the banner at the top, depending on which browser you use. Then, follow the installation wizard and hit <\/span><b>Done <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when you\u2019re finished. That\u2019s it!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/li><li><div class=\"howto_item\"><h2>Connect DroidCam using Wifi<\/h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2022\/09\/How-to-Use-DroidCam-2.jpg\" alt=\"How to Use DroidCam\" width=\"412\" height=\"279\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This you can do on Android and Windows simultaneously. Simply switch on your Wifi on both devices, and connect your Android and Windows devices to the<\/span><b> same Wifi network<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Now, you\u2019ll need to open the DroidCam Android app that you installed in the previous step.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the app is open, you\u2019ll see an interface that gives you all the Wifi IP and DroidCam Port particulars. If you see that the Wifi IP is 0.0.0.0, your device is not connected to a Wifi network. Now, you\u2019ll need to open the DroidCam utility on your <\/span><b>Windows device<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the utility is open, you\u2019ll see a <\/span><b>dialogue box<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where you can type the Wifi IP and DroidCam Port particulars. These are displayed on the interface of the Andorid app as we covered in the previous step. Type these two values in exactly as they appear on the DroidCam app.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next, all you need to do is launch your video conferencing utility of choice &#8211; usually either <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/skype.it.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skype<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <a href=\"https:\/\/google-meet.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google Meet<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/zoom.en.softonic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zoom<\/a>. Check your webcam output by simply hitting the Video or Webcam settings cog. For example, if your utility of choice is <\/span><b>Skype<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, you\u2019ll simply head to the settings cog and then select Audio &amp; Video, and then select the source camera for your utility to display.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/li><li><div class=\"howto_item\"><h2>Connect DroidCam using a USB cable<\/h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2022\/09\/How-to-Use-DroidCam-3.jpg\" alt=\"How to Use DroidCam\" width=\"373\" height=\"253\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a secondary option, useful if you don\u2019t want to connect via a Wifi network. Simply haul out your trusty USB cable. These days, you can simply unplug your charging cable from the Android charger head and plug the duckbill into the <\/span><b>USB port<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on your laptop or PC. This is the easy part. The next bit gets a little technical if you\u2019ve never used developer options before.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Android USB debugging<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Head into the settings of your Android device, and scroll down to the option where you can see your device\u2019s particulars. This will usually be under Device or Phone. Next locate the line that says Build Number, and tap on the build number numerous times. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It should take 7 taps, but from tap four you should see a little pop-up that says \u2018You are X steps away from becoming a developer.\u2019 The last of these prompts will read something along the lines of \u2018Congratulations, <\/span><b>you are now a developer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u2019\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next, head back to your global settings list. You should now see a new entry called Developer Options. These are settings that can assist you with various processes, but also impede certain fuctionailty if you hit the wrong option. Scroll to <\/span><b>Enable USB Debugging<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and enable it. This is an integral step as the connection you\u2019ll be using between your Windows and Android devices takes place over what we call an Adroid Debug Bridge (ADB).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next, you\u2019ll need to simply launch the DroidCam app and ensure that your phone is plugged into your Windows device.
