After more than a month of threatening a new Twitter Blue subscription, Elon Musk pulled it off. You’ll be able to get that treasured blue tick that confirms you are who you say you are. Also, we get that long-awaited character extension to 4,000.

Musk told us it was coming. After so many fake and spam accounts being removed and real businesses fighting for verification, you can now get a Twitter Blue tick. A gold badge will signify companies, while a grey one is reserved for political or government entities. All you need to do to join the party is to pay for that coveted subscription.

There’s a slight catch, though. If you verify your identity for your account, you’ll have to keep your account name, profile icon, and banner the same. Should you change any of these, you’ll have to verify your account again. I guess it stops someone from hacking your account and then claiming to still be you.

? pic.twitter.com/gtxzJYOAdV
— Twitter Blue (@TwitterBlue) August 15, 2022

Another more useful update with Twitter Blue is that you can post up to 4,000 characters. It’s a massive step up from 280, which shows that the platform doesn’t care about you keeping your posts short anymore. Remember, that was the foundation of Twitter, keeping it brief and to the point. Now, you can waffle on for much longer, adding plenty of tags and annoying the rest of us.

Ok, maybe I’m being overdramatic on that last point. For businesses, the increased character count will be a boon. They can talk more about the services they offer to attract the right attention. Sadly, the Twitter Blue subscription doesn’t remove ads altogether.
