However, it may now be facing one of the biggest in its history -or perhaps the biggest of all-: <strong>the <a href=\"https:\/\/league-of-legends.en.softonic.com\/\" title=\"League of Legends\">League of Legends<\/a> source code is owned by hackers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have learned the information from the company itself, which has published a tweet commenting on the situation. In this, Riot Games has stated that the hackers <strong>are in possession of the source code<\/strong>, as well as that they have received an email where the company is blackmailed: <strong>either a &#8220;ransom&#8221; is paid or the code will be released on the Internet<\/strong>. The company has already said that it does not intend to release a single dollar in this regard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From here, another novelty arises. The hackers themselves have sent this email to different media outlets, as highlighted by <a href=\"https:\/\/techbriefly.com\/2023\/01\/25\/league-of-legends-source-code-leak\/\" title=\"TechBriefly\">TechBriefly<\/a>. According to this portal, the hackers have provided Riot Games with <strong>two PDF files<\/strong> full of evidence that they have the League of Legends source code. They have also offered to &#8220;provide information on how they accessed this data and tips on how to prevent future breaches&#8221;. And yes, the most important fact: they are <strong>demanding a total of $10 million<\/strong> &#8211; the figure is spelled correctly, yes &#8211; as &#8220;consideration&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today, we received a ransom email. Needless to say, we won\u2019t pay.<br><br>While this attack disrupted our build environment and could cause issues in the future, most importantly we remain confident that no player data or player personal information was compromised.<br><br>2\/7<\/p>&mdash; Riot Games (@riotgames) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/riotgames\/status\/1617900236172857345?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 24, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In relation to this attack, from Riot Games have confirmed that &#8220;<strong>no data or personal information of the players has been compromised<\/strong>&#8220;, i.e., they have the source code, indeed, but not the data of the millions of registered users in LoL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the other hand, and beyond being intimidated by the attack, the U.S. company <strong>will take legal action<\/strong> against those responsible for this act.
