It&#8217;s not ideal, but also not a bad way of playing simple melodies on your PC. <a href=\"http:\/\/midipiano.en.softonic.com\/\">MidiPiano<\/a> is the neatest <strong>Windows <\/strong>app I&#8217;ve found for this.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21348\" title=\"MidiPiano\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2011\/11\/midi123.jpg\" alt=\"Qwerty piano keyboard\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" srcset=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2011\/11\/midi123.jpg 600w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2011\/11\/midi123-120x80.jpg 120w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2011\/11\/midi123-300x196.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>MidiPiano has two windows, the <strong>keyboard with controls<\/strong>, and a <strong>piano roll<\/strong> into which you can upload <strong>midi files<\/strong>. When you record yourself playing, it&#8217;s recorded here too, in midi format.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>How to use MidiPiano<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I&#8217;ve played a real piano a couple of times, and using a qwerty keyboard is a bit awkward in  comparison! The layout runs the white keys along four rows: starting at the bottom with the <strong>Z<\/strong> to <strong>M<\/strong> keys, then continuing with <strong>A<\/strong> to <strong>L<\/strong>, <strong>Q<\/strong> to <strong>P<\/strong> and then <strong>1<\/strong> to <strong>0<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The cursor keys, and numpad also let you run further up the keyboard, but it&#8217;s much more comfortable sticking to the four first rows. <strong>Black keys<\/strong> can be found by using <strong>Ctrl<\/strong> plus any other key. Holding <strong>shift<\/strong> allows you to play one note with the octave above at the same time. The <strong>record<\/strong> feature helpfully starts when you play your first note, and the midi file will finish with your last.<\/p>\n<p>MidiPiano is free, and doesn&#8217;t require installation.
