Do you use Microsoft Teams<\/strong> regularly? Well, get ready, there’s “stuff coming”. Microsoft is finalizing the details of a new version of the collaborative platform that would have been rebuilt from scratch in order to substantially improve its performance on PCs and laptops<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

According to The Verge<\/a><\/strong>, this new version of Microsoft Teams is being tested internally at the company, and users will be able to try it out in a preview to be released in March<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new version of Microsoft Teams, which is internally called “Microsoft Teams 2.0\/2.1”<\/strong> would use far fewer resources. According to data collected by The Verge, the program would use 50% less memory<\/strong>, make fewer demands on the CPU and improve battery life on laptops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This new version would move Teams to Microsoft’s Edge Webview 2<\/strong> technology, moving it away from Electron in the process. In addition, the application will make use of React, a JavaScript library that will deliver new UI enhancements<\/strong> for Teams in the coming months<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rish Tandon<\/strong>, the former head of engineering for Microsoft Teams, stated in a Twitter thread<\/strong> detailing initial Microsoft Teams enhancements that Microsoft’s new architecture would be an essential building block for future Teams enhancements<\/strong>: “This architecture will help us add support for multiple accounts, work-life scenarios, release predictability and scalability for the customer. It will be a journey, but with Windows 11 we’ve taken the first key steps,” Tandon said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
