Who is Mae Muller, the new entrant at this year\u2019s Eurovision Song Contest<\/a> representing the United Kingdom?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoping she will follow Sam Ryder\u2019s success last year, the 25-year-old will be performing her track at the competition in May \u201cI Wrote A Song.\u201d Muller stated, “To compete in such a massive music competition is simply brilliant,”<\/em><\/strong> describing it as “a dream.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BBC followed last year’s selection process, working with a management company to confirm the act making the UK one of the last to reveal its song for 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps a coincidence, but the last year the UK won Eurovision<\/a> in 1997 is the same year Muller was born (who knows, maybe it\u2019s a sign)!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muller enthusiastically shared, “I’m a huge fan of so many of the artists that have found success at Eurovision, from ABBA to M\u00e5neskin,”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Sam Ryder was so amazing last year and proved the UK can be back on the left-hand side of the leaderboard.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UK received its most remarkable result in 20 years in last year\u2019s contest when Ryder came second. With that in mind, Muller shared her awareness that she had big shoes to fill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muller says, “This is obviously such a level up from anything I’ve ever done, and I can really feel it.”<\/em><\/strong> but optimistically confirmed, “You’ve got to go big, and you’ve got to do it right.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ryder shared a congratulating Instagram video for Muller\u2019s selection and has already been in touch to share some tips for the Eurovision Contest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“You’re in for the most wild, inexplicable ride and I’m chuffed for you,”<\/em><\/strong> Ryder said. “Have a blast.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of the songs and acts of the 37 competing countries have confirmed who will be going to Liverpool, with the deadline set for 13 March. Typically a Eurovision entrant is chosen in two ways: A national TV show winner selection or an internal selection where someone is selected behind the scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commonly the winning country will host the following year. Still, due to the circumstances surrounding Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine, the organizers ruled it too dangerous and requested BBC to host instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
