Fury of the Gods<\/strong>, the umpteenth DC Comics movie before <a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/best-comics-dc-movies-james-gunn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">James Gunn<\/a> does his thing with the reboot of what has been called <a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/dc-episode-1-all-productions-announced-by-james-gunn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DC Studios<\/a>, hits theaters today. Along with other films like Black Adam and the upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/the-flash-batman-michael-keaton-christian-bale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Flash<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/aquaman-2-first-reviews\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Aquaman 2<\/a>, it&#8217;s one of the farewells to the DC universe in recent years. But <strong>is it a farewell to live up to?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed-Youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS - Official Trailer 1\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Zi88i4CpHe4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first Shazam! movie surprised on its 2019 release. Although it was the year of Avengers: Endgame, it surprised many superhero fans thanks to <strong>its good white humor, teenage perspective on the story, and epic action parts<\/strong>. However, this movie doesn&#8217;t seem to live up to its predecessor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/SHZM2-TRLR-0001-e1658597706663.jpg?crop=0px%2C2px%2C2433px%2C1364px&amp;resize=681%2C383\" alt=\"Shazam! Fury Of The Gods' Review: Sequel Keeps Heart &amp; Humor \u2013 Deadline\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First reviews of Shazam! 2<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/shazam_fury_of_the_gods\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">55% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> and 84% favorability, you can&#8217;t say the film didn&#8217;t work. However, the public favor of the first one was as high as 90%, so <strong>it is clearly far from the previous numbers<\/strong>. But to what is the reason for this setback? Let&#8217;s look at some of the critics&#8217; comments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>It&#8217;s fun to watch, but has <strong>a lot of clutter and too much CGI<\/strong> that overwhelms the plot and leaves the tenderness of the previous film behind. &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/moviemom.com\/shazam-fury-of-the-gods\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Moviemom<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Even the all-star cast of supervillains can&#8217;t save this <strong>awkward sequel<\/strong>. &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/03\/16\/shazam-fury-of-the-gods-review-star-casting-cant-save-this-sequel-18457089\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Metro<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>While the first Shazam! felt like a refreshing throwback to the kids&#8217; adventures of the 1980s and the superhero movies of the early 2000s, Shazam! The Rage of the Gods feels like <strong>a creaky remnant of the mid-2010s<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inverse.com\/entertainment\/shazam-2-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Inverse<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The experience of watching this new installment of Shazam! is like watching a rich but somewhat sweet and innocent kid <strong>smash his toys for 130 minutes<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/arts\/film\/reviews\/article-frankly-dc-i-dont-give-a-shazam-fury-of-the-gods-is-disposable\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Globe and Mail<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/discussingfilm.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Shazam-Fury-Gods-DC-Films.jpg\" alt=\"Shazam! Fury of the Gods' Review | DiscussingFilm\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The best parts of this movie are drowned out by <strong>mindless CGI monsters<\/strong> and tedious action sequences &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/shazam-fury-of-the-gods-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Wrap<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Messy and sad, it resonates as the <strong>death knell<\/strong> for the current iteration of this interconnected film company &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/obsessed\/shazam-fury-of-the-gods-one-of-the-worst-dc-movies-ever?ref=author\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Daily Beast<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In short, it is clear that the critics have not liked the film too much, and not even the bombastic charisma of Zachary Levi, who already did his best in the original, manages <strong>to save it from shipwreck<\/strong>.
