Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves<\/a> <\/strong>has become the biggest surprise of the moviegoing season. The film has garnered the not inconsiderable score of 91% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as the favor of 93% of the public<\/strong>. For a blockbuster, this is a very unusual score and speaks very well of the film.<\/p>\n\n\n

The film starring Chris Pine<\/strong> brings the world of Dungeons and Dragons<\/strong> back to the cinema -which has already been tried in the past with more pain than glory, and if not ask Jeremy Irons<\/strong>-, and it does it in the best possible way. Although in this article we will not make spoilers, we could summarize it as a Guardians of the Galaxy <\/strong>in a medieval fantasy world. It even matches it in charisma, as its synopsis makes clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“A charming thief and a group of adventurers embark on an epic quest to recover a long-lost relic<\/strong>. However, their adventure goes dangerously awry when they mess with the wrong people.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the feature film is not enjoying the groundbreaking box office that one might expect from such a success<\/strong>. In fact, it has failed to win the public’s favor right off the bat, and its campaign has been more about taming the negative reviews from fans of the original game than showcasing its true virtues. But what happened here?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A trailer that is far from the final product<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Normally, when we see a trailer we find a much more polished product than the final feature film or series. Being only a couple of minutes long, a mix of epic music, cool shots and witty one-liners<\/strong> are all it takes to get the audience rushing to the theaters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeing a cool trailer and then being disappointed by the movie is common<\/strong>. It happened with Josh Trank’s Fantastic 4, the last episode of Star Wars<\/strong> or Batman V Superman<\/strong>. And it’s something that happens even more in video games, as is the case with Cyberpunk 2077<\/a><\/strong> or No Man’s Sky.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But to have it happen the other way around is to have very little tomorrow in marketing, <\/strong>and in this case it has happened that way. The trailer we saw for Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves kept the fun tone of the movie, but cut off at the best moments, without giving a clear perspective of the story and leaving behind all the pride felt by its creators for adapting D&D to film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
