But, no, today we are not here to talk about pizzas (sorry), but literally about a moon, our moon<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And this week took place one of the most anticipated events in the world of astronomy: the Pink Moon. With this striking name is how the first full moon of spring <\/strong>is known, which, as a curiosity, is the one that decides the date of Easter<\/strong>. Since the year 325, it has been a tradition to celebrate Easter Sunday on the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring, which is why many people are on vacation this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the name, the Pink Moon as such is not pink. According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac<\/a><\/strong>, the first full moon of spring is named for the phlox subulata<\/a><\/strong>, a flower also known as creeping plox, moss plox or mountain plox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both this almanac and NASA itself agree that the Native Americans called this moon this way because it often coincides with the flowering time of this wildflower<\/strong>, which is commonly used as a ground cover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
