Attack on Titan (Shingeki No Kyojin) is one of the most successful animes of recent years. The story of Eren Yeager in a world devastated by titans has been gaining fans for over a decade, both through the manga and its televised adaptation, and there is no doubt that it is a story that manages to captivate anyone.

However, despite the fact that animes are usually quite straightforward to follow – I mean, you just watch one episode after another – in the case of Attack on Titan, they have released so many seasons, OVAs, and movies that it becomes somewhat difficult to keep up. Therefore, below we will provide a summary of how to watch all of Attack on Titan in order, without getting lost along the way.

The entire anime can be followed through streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, as well as some of the OVAs and movies that summarize the seasons.

1.1 Attack on Titan: Season 1 (2013)

The beginning is quite simple. All you need to do is watch the first season of Attack on Titan, which dates back to 2013 and consists of 26 episodes. It is the adaptation of the first 33 chapters of the original manga and covers the entire universe of Eren Yeager and his childhood before starting to unveil the hidden secrets behind the series.

""

1.2 Summary films (2014-2015)

If instead of watching the original anime, you want to watch the summary movies that condense the season, you can do so with “Attack on Titan: The Movie. Part 1 – Crimson Bow and Arrow” (2014), which summarizes episodes 1 to 13, and “Attack on Titan: The Movie. Part 2 – The Wings of Freedom” (2015), which summarizes episodes 14 to 25.

""

1.3 Expansion OVAs (2013-2015)

The first season also features several OVAs (original video animations) that help expand the complex universe of Attack on Titan. There are four in total, released between 2013 and 2015, which were gradually revealed during the first season of the anime: “Ilse’s Notebook” (2013), “The Sudden Visitor: The Torturous Curse of Youth” (2014), “Distress” (2014), “No Regrets: Part 1” (2014), and “No Regrets: Part 2” (2015).

""

1.4 Attack on Titan: live actions (2015)

Although their quality is quite abysmal compared to the anime, the time to watch the live-action adaptations of Attack on Titan is after taking a look at the first season. The first live-action movie, released in 2015, covers the entire story up to the revelation of Eren’s power.

The second movie, also from the same year and titled “Attack on Titan 2: End of the World,” follows what happens immediately after. Thus, it is perfect for continuing the story from this point and as a supplement to the anime… if you don’t mind its abysmal quality, of course.

1.5 Kyojin Chūgakkō – Attack on Titan chibi version (2013-2015)

A common occurrence in successful anime series like Attack on Titan is the release of a chibi version, featuring cute and big-headed characters. In this case, there are two miniseries that serve as a complement to the first season, albeit in their own unique way.

The first one is “Attack on Titan: Chibi Theater – Fly, Cadets, Fly!” (2013), which focuses on the training years of the main characters before facing the Titans. The second one is “Attack on Titan: Junior High,” which reimagines the entire first season of the series in a more light-hearted manner. Both miniseries feature the original voice actors, making them quite enjoyable to watch.

2. Attack on Titan: Season 2 (2017)

Finally, we can move on to the second season of Attack on Titan, which took four years to arrive after the first season and added only twelve more episodes to the story, adapting chapters 34 to 50 of the manga. As many believe, this is the season that truly hooks you into the intriguing plot of Shingeki No Kyojin.

""

2.1 Digest Movie (2018)

The second season also has a movie that summarizes episodes 26 to 37 titled “Attack on Titan: The Roar of Awakening” (2018). While it provides a good summary of these episodes, you will still need to continue watching the series to catch up completely.

""

2.2 Expansion OVA (2017)

Indeed, the second season also has its own special episode, this time in a double feature. “Lost Girls,” released in 2017, consists of two episodes that showcase two pivotal moments involving Annie and Mikasa during the season. It is essential for expanding the series and delving deeper into these characters’ stories.

""

3.1 Attack on Titan: Season 3 – Part 1 (2018)

Here, we start gaining momentum, but the trend of dividing seasons into parts also emerges, which has become increasingly popular and somewhat puzzling. The first part of Season 3 adapts chapters 51 to 72 of the manga and is much more politically focused than the previous seasons. It consists of a total of 12 episodes.

""

3.2 Attack on Titan: Season 3 – Part 2 (2019)

The second part of Season 3 of the anime only has 9 episodes but adapts from episode 73 to 90 of the manga. In this part, we delve deeper into the truth behind the walls and witness an epic battle where many more secrets are revealed.

""

3.3 Shingeki no Kyojin: Chronicle (2019)

If you’ve become overwhelmed by the amount of content to watch in Attack on Titan, you have the perfect opportunity to catch up by watching the anime film “Shingeki no Kyojin: Chronicle” (2019). It serves as a condensed adaptation of the essential elements from the first three seasons, wrapping it up in a little over two hours.

""

4.1 Attack on Titan: Last Season – Part 1 (2020-2021)

Don’t be deceived by the title, we are still far from reaching the end of the series. The first part of the supposed final season of Attack on Titan consists of 16 episodes and adapts from chapter 90 to 139 of the manga. In this season, there was a change in animation studio, with the renowned Studio Mappa taking over the production.

""

4.2 Attack on Titan: Last Season – Part 2 (2022)

This pseudo-final season continued to expand in 2022 with 12 new episodes that took their time to adapt the controversial conclusion of Eren and his comrades’ story. This anime has 12 episodes, but it’s not the true final ending either.

""

4.3 Attack on Titan: Last Season – Part 3 Part 1 (2023)

Yes… the headline is not a typo. They have indeed started dividing the parts into even more parts. But well, we’re in the final stretch. In 2023, Mappa released two new episodes that serve as a sort of one-hour movie and cover ALMOST the entire ending of the series. But there’s still something more to come.

""

4.4 Attack On Titan: Final Season – Part 3 Part 2 (Coming Soon)

We still don’t know much about the definitive ending of Attack on Titan, but it is expected that this Part 3 Part 2 will truly be the conclusion of mangaka Hajime Isayama’s story. It is supposed to arrive before the end of the year, but considering the timing of this anime, anything can happen.
