The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/great-blackout-reddit-thousands-communities-up-to-30-million-users-turn-off-signal-protest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&#8220;blackout&#8221; of thousands of subreddits<\/a><\/strong>, which accumulate millions of followers, is now joined by <strong>a group of hackers <\/strong>who try to put the balance in favor of developers and users. Through <strong>phishing<\/strong>, the attackers <strong>claim to have stolen nearly 80 gb of data from the platform<\/strong>, and have threatened Reddit with publication if their demands are not met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First of all, BlackCat is demanding <strong>$4.5 million from the company in exchange for the stolen data, <\/strong>a typical demand of such criminal groups. On the other hand, the hackers seem to be against Reddit&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/reddit-wants-developers-to-pay-to-use-api-train-artificial-intelligences\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent policy changes regarding its API, <\/a><\/strong>and demands that it repeal them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/Reddit-aplicaciones-de-terceros-API.jpg\" alt=\"Imagen publicada por los subreddits que protestan por los cambios en las pol\u00edticas de la API de Reddit.\" class=\"wp-image-292492\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reddit <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/reddit\/comments\/10y427y\/we_had_a_security_incident_heres_what_we_know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">said <\/a><\/strong>in February, just after the hack occurred, that this phishing attack was <strong>very &#8220;sophisticated and targeted&#8221;<\/strong> with the internal data and documents that were stolen, including contact information for Reddit employees and advertisers on the platform. Until recently, developers of apps for Reddit did not have to pay for the use of the API, but now <strong>the company requires a monthly paymen<\/strong>t, based on the requests made, to keep them running.
