There is no doubt that One Piece<\/a><\/strong> is the anime of the moment<\/strong>. Beyond the fact that it is the most watched series in the world<\/strong> despite having been on the air for more than two decades, the news of the premiere of its live action on Netflix has fueled the call of the followers of Luffy, Zoro, Nami and company.<\/p>\n\n\n

Now, in the face of this new wave of One Piece <\/a><\/strong>fanaticism, many are asking questions pertinent to the original manga. And one of them is why Luffy doesn’t kill his enemies. Throughout the story, the pirate faces all sorts of bloodthirsty villains<\/strong>, but never finishes them off, causing them to return later in one form or another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why doesn’t Luffy kill anyone in One Piece?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Although death does exist in One Piece<\/a><\/strong>, as is clear with the murder of Barbablanca and Portgas D. Ace, Luffy never goes for that option<\/strong>. And, although it could be due to some of the heroism of the protagonist, as already happens with Son Goku in Dragon Ball, in reality the reason is quite different. Eiichiro Oda himself explains it in response to a fan’s question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In the world of One Piece, where characters live to fulfill their dreams, having their dreams shattered by being defeated by Luffy is more devastating than death,<\/strong>” explains Oda. In other words, while it may seem like an act of honesty or kindness on Luffy’s part, the motive is actually quite different. What he does is to shatter their dreams, something infinitely worse than death according to Oda himself.<\/p>\n\n\n
