When I was a child, I was lucky enough to go to an amusement park in my city very frequently and spend entire days there, going from one ride to another. As I grew up (cursed be the day I grew up), I continued to go, although less and less often, and I was able to ride attractions that were off-limits for younger kids, like <strong>the spectacular roller coaster<\/strong>. However, every time I got on, the same intrusive thought would come to mind: &#8220;What if this breaks?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It seems that the owners of an amusement park in Charlotte, North Carolina (United States), didn&#8217;t have that same thought, as their roller coaster was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/02\/us\/north-carolina-roller-coaster-closed.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">closed a few days ago<\/a> after discovering <strong>a massive crack in one of the pillars of the ride<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2023\/07\/Grieta-Fury-325-1024x768-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-238226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2023\/07\/Grieta-Fury-325-1024x768-1.jpg 960w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2023\/07\/Grieta-Fury-325-1024x768-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2023\/07\/Grieta-Fury-325-1024x768-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2023\/07\/Grieta-Fury-325-1024x768-1-16x12.jpg 16w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2023\/07\/Grieta-Fury-325-1024x768-1-150x113.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Fury 325<\/strong>, named after its towering height of 325 feet (<strong>99 meters<\/strong>) at its highest point, was closed &#8220;after park staff noticed a crack at the top of a steel support pillar,&#8221; according to the attraction&#8217;s personnel. If we consider an ordinary visitor as &#8220;park staff,&#8221; then we assume they are telling the truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interestingly, the crack was actually discovered by <strong>Jeremy Wagner<\/strong>, a family father who visited the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/that-time-disney-began-to-teach-sex-education-to-children-at-a-disneyworld-attraction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">amusement park<\/a> that day with his daughter, son, niece, and his son&#8217;s friend. After his own 14-year-old daughter rode the roller coaster a total of 8 times, Wagner noticed a significant crack in one of the pillars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video aligncenter\"><video controls src=\"https:\/\/vp.nyt.com\/video\/2023\/07\/02\/109778_1_02vid-nc-rollercoaster_wg_1080p.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With trembling hands, Wagner recorded a video that clearly shows the crack <strong>completely separating the pillar of the roller coaster<\/strong>, causing the upper half to briefly shift to the side as the train approaches. The train <strong>carries dozens of passengers<\/strong> on each ride and can reach speeds of up to 95 miles per hour (153 kilometers per hour).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, Fury 325, known as the &#8220;longest giga coaster in North America,&#8221; will remain closed until the amusement park staff can fully repair the crack.
