<\/strong>the area between the hangar and the runway, at Lockheed Martin Skunk Works in Palmdale, California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The move from its construction site to the flight line is one of many milestones that prepare the X-59 for its first flight and subsequent flights,&#8221; NASA said this week, adding that the team will now conduct a series of critical ground tests to ensure the aircraft is ready for its inaugural flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>One of these tests will involve flying the X-59 at supersonic speeds over a series of communities<\/strong> to observe how residents respond to the sonic boom generated during its high-speed flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following this, NASA will share its findings with U.S. and international regulatory agencies, potentially opening up the possibility of commercial supersonic flights over land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Tail Installed on NASA\u2019s X-59\" width=\"840\" height=\"630\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tlZNU-eh5zY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">History of NASA&#8217;s supersonic aircraft<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The X-59, which began development in 2016<\/strong>, is designed to fly at 55,000 feet (16,765 meters) <strong>with a cruising speed of Mach 1.42 (1,508 km\/h)<\/strong>, which is twice the speed of a conventional passenger aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At this speed, flight times between destinations will be dramatically reduced.
