We all know that right now neither Meta nor Twitter <\/a><\/strong>are at their best, and it doesn’t seem that any other social network is coming up to the two gigamillionaires to show them how it’s done. For a while, many took refuge in Reddit, a hybrid between a forum and a social network, where you can talk about whatever topic you want, no matter how specific it is<\/strong>: there is a space for you. Or rather, there was.<\/p>\n\n\n

And the fact is that, since the application’s bosses decided to charge third-party applications such as BaconReader or Apollo, a good handful of communities have simply decided to close in protest and leave Reddit <\/a><\/strong>blank. Well, that’s putting it mildly: as soon as they’ve had a chance to say something, they’ve used it to charge as hard as they could against Steve Huffman, the CEO<\/strong> in question, better known as Spez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They’ve done it in the most Reddit way possible: since 2017 saw the start of the “pixel wars”, in which each user can add one pixel every five minutes to a gigantic 6000\u00d76000 screen (so it takes a lot of coordination to get a drawing out), all sorts of wonders have been made, from flags filling an entire side to images of ‘Star Wars<\/a><\/strong>‘. This year art seems to have been put aside to make room for vindication.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Place”, as the place meant to put up non-stop pixels once a year is called, has returned adding “What better time to offer a blank canvas to our communities than when our users and moderators are most passionate, right?”. Well, if what they were hoping for was hundreds of<\/strong> “FUCK SPEZ<\/strong>,” yes, they certainly got it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Considering that last year more than 10 million people participated, each posting an average of 160 pixels, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be that easy. In fact, Spez himself sent an internal email to the rest of the workers asking for calm (“Like all brawls on Reddit, this one will pass”) and it has made the users even worse. In 2023 we can no longer have fun stuff, and it is not the fault of ordinary people, but of those who always try to earn a penny more even<\/strong> if it means breaking an entire community. Greed breaks the bag even on Reddit.<\/p>\n\n\n
