Now, TikTok has decided to catch up and further diversify the content users can share by allowing them to post text-based updates<\/strong> in a manner very similar to Stories<\/strong>, a feature popularized by Snapchat<\/a><\/strong> and Instagram<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As TikTok explains in their blog<\/a>, with this new type of post, users will also be able to customize and embellish the text they share<\/strong>, adding music tracks, stickers, changing the background color, tagging a location, enabling comments, and allowing duets from other users (Duet function), among other possibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Users can now express themselves freely as text-based posts have a character limit of 1,000<\/strong>. The new feature is already available to all TikTok users<\/strong> worldwide who have the latest version of the app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Text-based posts come just a few weeks after TikTok started testing a new music streaming platform<\/strong> called TikTok Music<\/a><\/strong>. Currently, this platform is only available in five countries, but it is expected to expand to more regions in the coming months.<\/p>\n\n\n

Indeed, TikTok’s new text-based feature comes at a time when Twitter<\/strong>, now called X<\/strong><\/a>, is facing challenges and new apps are emerging to compete with Elon Musk<\/strong>‘s company. Among these alternatives are Mastodon<\/strong>, which was one of the first major alternatives to Twitter; Bluesky<\/a><\/strong>, created by Twitter’s founder; and Threads<\/a><\/strong>, recently launched by Meta. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
