It is well known by everyone that in Hollywood, they like to squeeze every last drop out of anything that can generate profits. A good example of this would be Barbie<\/strong>, whose success has led us to expect a Cinematic Universe based on Hasbro toys<\/strong>, more or less soon. However, there is no foolproof formula for success, and in many cases, not even a great franchise can save you from the abyss.<\/p>\n\n\n

For many years, video game adaptations were synonymous with box office failures. Some notorious examples, like the Street Fighter<\/strong> movie starring Van Damme, continue to haunt the nightmares of many millennials, even to this day. But now the tables have turned. Series like The Last of Us, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, or Super Mario Bros. The Movie<\/strong> have shown that high-quality works that captivate audiences can be created.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps that’s why it wouldn’t be strange to imagine a movie or series based on Red Dead Redemption, just as many fans would hope. Take Two boasts an extensive list of games with substantial cinematic potential: Grand Theft Auto<\/a>, Mafia, or XCOM<\/strong> are titles that could translate well. However, Strauss Zelnick<\/strong> has dashed any lingering hope of seeing these franchises on the big or small screen, at least for now<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take Two’s CEO asserts that television and film projects offer a very small economic opportunity compared to the risks they entail. According to him, the success of these new adaptations is accompanied by a history of “failures that incurred significant financial losses.”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevertheless, this hasn’t deterred Take Two from moving forward with the Borderlands and BioShock<\/a> movies. On his part, Zelnick states that the company will continue to take a “very selective approach to its licenses” and will embark on more visual projects if they perceive an “economic opportunity<\/a>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
