2023 seemed destined to be a terrible year for cinema<\/strong>. On one hand, Marvel Studios experienced one of its first veiled failures with “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” the third film of the hero that hasn’t gained much traction. Other highly anticipated releases like “Fast & Furious X” or “Flash<\/a>” haven’t performed well either, and the latest Indiana Jones movie has made it clear that we are facing a challenging year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, this past month is changing the perspective of 2023 quite a bit<\/strong>. While it still remains a rather lackluster year overall, there are movies that are tipping the scales beyond the big success of Super Mario Bros. And while we shouldn’t be overly optimistic given the current state of Hollywood, filled with strikes and complaints, The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> makes it clear that things are beginning to change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barbie, Oppenheimer, Megalodon 2, Ninja Turtles\u2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first major key to this success is, of course, Barbie<\/a><\/strong>. Greta Gerwig’s film has just crossed the $1 billion mark globally, something that very few movies have achieved. Furthermore, it has achieved this with a fantastic box office of $459.4 million in the United States alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This adds to other releases that are performing really well. Oppenheimer is another clear example of this; Christopher Nolan<\/a>‘s film has reached an impressive $649 million<\/strong>, a remarkably high figure considering it’s a biopic. And it’s not the only one to reach such heights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Megalodon 2,”<\/strong> the sequel to the hit sea monster film starring Jason Statham, has premiered with $112 million, a figure that will likely multiply in the coming weeks and is already close to surpassing its initial budget. And “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,”<\/strong> an animated film, has achieved a debut of $43 million in the US, also a significant number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Undoubtedly, we are witnessing a paradigm shift in a year that has been tough for the film industry. We can only hope whether this is a brief respite in the midst of a storm or if real change is underway<\/strong>. Let’s hope that cinema returns to its former glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
