Apple announced yesterday that the new iPhone 15 will come with USB-C, ending the 11-year reign of its Lightning port. autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The standard models come with USB 2.0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apple could have avoided <a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/the-iphone-15-would-charge-at-35w-although-with-nuances?ex=CS-1537.0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the requirement by completely removing a physical port in favor of wireless charging<\/a>, but it seems they made a sensible choice by not going for that option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, where they have not shown common sense is in the decision to include in their new smartphone an outdated and absurdly slow USB standard that is 23 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>While Apple was talking about the iPhone 15 Pro, they explained that an exclusive USB controller in the Pro chip would allow USB transfers at 10 Gbps<\/strong>, which is a big red flag for what they are offering in the basic model of the phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"589\" src=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/sft\/articles\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2023\/09\/USB-2.0-del-nuevo-iPhone-15-1024x589.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248827\" srcset=\"https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2023\/09\/USB-2.0-del-nuevo-iPhone-15-1024x589.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2023\/09\/USB-2.0-del-nuevo-iPhone-15-300x173.jpg 300w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2023\/09\/USB-2.0-del-nuevo-iPhone-15-768x442.jpg 768w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2023\/09\/USB-2.0-del-nuevo-iPhone-15-150x86.jpg 150w, https:\/\/articles-img.sftcdn.net\/auto-mapping-folder\/sites\/3\/2023\/09\/USB-2.0-del-nuevo-iPhone-15.jpg 1251w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And indeed, the complete specifications on the Apple website confirm some bad news about this USB-C update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Apple&#8217;s site indicates that it will offer a 20W USB-C charger<\/strong> (sold separately, of course), slower than the common 25W charging used in Android phones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the bad news is that <strong>the USB-C port on the iPhone 15 is still limited to USB 2.0, which means its maximum transfer speed is 480 Mbps<\/strong>. That&#8217;s ridiculous for a \u20ac900 smartphone in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let&#8217;s be honest, <strong>Apple is really cutting corners here by limiting the iPhone 15 to the old USB 2.0 protocol<\/strong> and only including the much faster USB 3 standard in the Pro model.
