Paid subscriptions<\/strong> have become increasingly common, so much so that they have made their way into the realm of social media. We already saw this with X Premium<\/strong> (formerly known as Twitter Blue), and now, it’s Meta who wants to do something similar. The technology conglomerate plans to offer a subscription <\/strong>of around 13 euros per month to completely remove advertisements on Instagram and Facebook<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

This new paid tier <\/em>aims to comply with European regulations that prohibit user tracking for personalized advertising. As reported by The Wall Street Journal<\/a>, Meta plans to make these new premium options public over the next few months. Here’s how it would work: using an Instagram or Facebook account would cost around 13 euros<\/strong> approximately on mobile, 10 euros<\/strong> on the computer, and an additional 6 euros <\/strong>for each associated account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, this doesn’t mean you are obligated to pay for using these social networks. Those who want to continue using them as they have been able to do so far can still do it completely for free<\/strong>, but with ads included. So you can breathe easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meta’s move is aimed at adapting to the DMA, which stands for the Digital Markets Act<\/strong>. This regulation aims to ensure online competition and prevent large companies from manipulating the market at their discretion. Additionally, DMA also requires user consent for the transfer of their data between platforms, something from which Instagram and Facebook specifically benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For these companies, data holds immense value due to its use in advertising and marketing campaigns, among other purposes. The better you understand your audience, the easier it is to sell them specific products. According to Meta, the new subscriptions would address the issue in Europe without losing profitability along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n
