Discord is a wonderful platform that allows its users to create and join virtual communities <\/strong>on various topics (especially video games) and hosts over 150 million active users per month<\/strong>, most of them being young. However, as is the case with any platform where messages can be written, from time to time, someone may commit an infraction, sometimes without the user being aware<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

This week, Discord has announced <\/a><\/strong>a complete overhaul of its warning system<\/strong> in order to make it much more transparent, focusing more on educating users rather than permanently banning them<\/a><\/strong> if they break any rules. Additionally, the platform has added a ‘teen safety assistance’ feature, aimed at protecting minors using Discord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From now on, if a Discord user violates the rules, they will receive a message from Discord informing them of the warning or infraction<\/strong>, as well as the actions being taken. In this way, if a Discord user uploads an image that violates the rules, for example, they may temporarily lose the ability to post images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discord <\/a><\/strong>users will be able to view their history of infractions in a new section, so they can know what they’ve done wrong<\/strong> and take it into account for the future. Obviously, the inclusion of this new warning system doesn’t mean that the platform won’t take more drastic measures if the user repeats their infractions later on.<\/p>\n\n\n

Discord has also introduced a ‘Teen Safety Assistance’ feature designed to protect minors through proactive filters and default alerts. In the coming weeks, the platform will integrate a sensitive content filter <\/strong>that will be enabled by default and blur sexually explicit content in text messages and on servers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, teenagers will receive a safety alert the first time they receive a private message on Discord<\/strong>, which will include safety tips and options to report and block the sender.<\/p>\n\n\n
