autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">He bought them at $100 each, and now they are worth $45 per share<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Monday, <strong>X employees received company shares valued at $19 billion, or $45 per share<\/strong>, according to internal documents seen by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/10\/30\/23938969\/x-twitter-valuation-19-billion-employee-shares\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">The Verge<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This price represents a 55% drop from Musk&#8217;s original purchase price<\/strong>, as indicated by the documents, which state, &#8220;the fair market value per share is determined by the Board of Directors based on a variety of factors in compliance with applicable tax rules.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since taking over Twitter, <strong>Musk has expressed his intention to model the company&#8217;s compensation plan after SpaceX<\/strong>, which is also private but allows employees to regularly redeem a portion of their shares to external investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">X is officially worth less than half of what Elon Musk paid for it <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/E1nfwm1px8\">https:\/\/t.co\/E1nfwm1px8<\/a><\/p>&mdash; These RSUs are granted over a four-year period from their grant date and require a &#8220;liquidity event,&#8221; such as an IPO or the sale of the company, to be taxed as income, according to internal documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Until now, X employees have been working there without knowing the company&#8217;s value since Musk bought it<\/strong>.
