Yes, we&#8217;ve all gotten used to mobile games\u2014especially free-to-play ones\u2014having ads here and there, but the possibilities, sadly, are endless. The proof is in <strong>the latest trick that Ubisoft has slipped into \u2018Assassin\u2019s Creed Odyssey\u2019 players, which is simply too much, as if they didn&#8217;t want to acknowledge it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The advertising odyssey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;re a fan of &#8216;Assassin\u2019s Creed&#8217;, you might not be able to play much else because <strong>Ubisoft churns out new games for the franchise at a breakneck speed<\/strong>. In fact, since &#8216;Odyssey&#8217;, they&#8217;ve already released &#8216;Valhalla&#8217; and &#8216;Mirage&#8217;, with new installments soon to follow. If you want to play through the entire saga, get ready for quite a few hours, as it already totals 30 titles, including 13 console games and 17 mobile or <a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/apple-prepares-a-cheaper-version-of-the-apple-vision-pro-but-its-price-will-continue-through-the-clouds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">virtual reality<\/a> spin-offs, all in just 15 years. Whew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, no matter how much variety the franchise offers, when you&#8217;re immersed in a video game, you expect it to isolate you from the rest and <strong>not remind you that, deep down, it&#8217;s a product and you&#8217;re just a consumer<\/strong>. Nevertheless, Ubisoft has decided that upon opening the map in &#8216;Assassin\u2019s Creed Odyssey&#8217;, before accessing it, a fabulous Black Friday offer promoting\u2026 &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/500-years-of-parkour-and-12-million-petted-cats-the-most-curious-facts-about-assassins-creed-mirage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Assassin\u2019s Creed Mirage<\/a>&#8216; appears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-reddit wp-block-embed-reddit\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"reddit-embed-bq\" style=\"height:500px\" ><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/xboxone\/comments\/181fbvn\/just_got_an_ingame_advertisement_when_i_tried_to\/\">Just got an in-game advertisement when I tried to go to the map<\/a><br> by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/user\/triddell24\/\">u\/triddell24<\/a> in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/xboxone\/\">xboxone<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/embed.reddit.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"UTF-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Users have responded in a way far from enthusiasm: <strong>with threats to uninstall the game<\/strong> and even return it, swearing off any future titles from the series (something we know will likely change when &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.softonic.com\/articles\/you-want-to-play-before-anyone-assassins-creed-codename-jade-so-you-can-do-it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Assassin\u2019s Creed Codename Red<\/a>,&#8217; or whatever it&#8217;s finally called, hits the market). And it&#8217;s true that a company should only let marketing possibilities go so far: Ubisoft has clearly crossed the line, and fans are far from happy with the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&#8217;ve grown accustomed to practices like these, but it&#8217;s always surprising that games, <strong>always pushing cosmetic microtransactions, DLCs, and other easy money-grabs<\/strong>, continue to want to accumulate more and more, even if it means ruining the player&#8217;s experience. Hopefully, in the future, we&#8217;ll see less of these practices\u2026 if the data doesn&#8217;t turn out as positive as they expect.
