They point out that a reduction in manufacturing emissions in this area would significantly contribute to an overall reduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Suppliers to the world&#39;s biggest technology firms need to cut emissions faster, Greenpeace says <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/baCby4phlB\">https:\/\/t.co\/baCby4phlB<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Bloomberg Green (@climate) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/climate\/status\/1727621269426704441?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 23, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">No one approves, no one commits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At this rate, however, <strong>the campaign group predicts that the semiconductor industry will produce more than double the emissions of Portugal by 2030<\/strong>, while consuming as much electricity as the entire country of Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>None of the 11 suppliers analyzed by Greenpeace has committed to halving their carbon emissions by 2030<\/strong>, a key requirement of the Paris Agreement&#8217;s 1.5\u00b0C goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The number of companies using low-impact procurement methods, such as Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), to increase their renewable electricity acquisition ratio was also observed. While this affects companies&#8217; figures, Greenpeace states that RECs and eco-prices &#8220;rarely translate into the addition of new renewable energy capacity to the grid.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Top 5 Technologies Reducing Carbon Emissions\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2CS_ndHkEnw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Additionally, Intel, TSMC, Samsung Electronics, Foxconn, and Luxshare Precision produced more emissions in 2022 compared to 2020<\/strong>. Despite the increase, Greenpeace&#8217;s decision to choose figures from 2020 is notable because it was a year of global shutdown due to the pandemic, leading to a drastic reduction in production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>It&#8217;s also important to consider that increased demand (and production) poses challenges to a company&#8217;s ability to reduce emissions<\/strong>. With more digital and connected devices entering the market, it seems this will be the case in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, <strong>SK Hynix, LG Display, and Pegatron appear to be the top-ranked companies in the semiconductor<\/strong>, display manufacturing, and final assembly fields, respectively.
