Thirty years ago, John Carmack and John Romero created Doom<\/a>, a game for DOS in a stunning 3D for its time that has set a precedent and is still being published to this day. It has had everything from comics to novels to two indescribable movies. And, of course, the saga has continued throughout the decades. Its latest main installment, Doom Eternal, the seventh in the saga<\/strong>, was nominated for Game of the Year and, according to many, should have won. But there’s a twist.<\/p>\n\n\n

A player of Doom Eternal<\/a>, when turning on the game the other day and checking the statistics on PS5, came across an unexpected surprise: apparently, he had played for over 400,000 hours. Specifically, 464,517<\/strong>, which is a little over 53 years without stopping to eat, sleep, or do anything else but play. It could be a hobby like any other if it weren’t for the fact that the game was released in 2020 and the numbers just don’t add up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sadly, it’s not that the user revealed themselves as a time traveler (especially because after so many years, they wouldn’t even have achieved platinum), but rather, it is supposed to be an error from<\/strong> Sony that comes from the Unix era<\/strong>, a system that counts the number of seconds since January 1, 1970 and is used by many systems and programming languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
