Twitch<\/strong> has once again changed its policies on sexual content, this time to prohibit implicit nudity<\/strong> on the platform. The company already prohibits nudity on its streaming service, but the new Twitch policy, which went into effect this week, also does not allow streamers to “hint or suggest that they are fully or partially naked<\/strong>,” according to Angela Hession, Director of Customer Trust, in a Twitch blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n

This policy change comes after Twitch recently relaxed its policies on sexual content. The platform updated its sexual content policies in December<\/a> to allow some previously prohibited content<\/strong>, as long as it is properly labeled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, just two days later, Twitch reversed part of the newly updated guidelines<\/strong><\/a> that allowed for “artistic nudity” due to “community concerns” (in short, Twitch’s home screen was flooded with nudity<\/strong> and pornographic drawings of “furries” characters).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After this, as usually happens on this platform, streamers continued to push the boundaries of the new policy. Some found ways to suggest that they are fully or partially naked in their streams, hiding certain parts of their body with physical or digital elements<\/strong>, such as black censorship bars, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n

Hession claims that, although most streamers have correctly tagged their content as sexual in nature (which would hide the posts from the Twitch homepage), users may still see potentially suggestive thumbnails while browsing the web<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We do not allow streamers to be fully or partially naked, including the exposure of genitals or buttocks,” says Hession. “We also do not allow streamers to imply or suggest that they are fully or partially naked<\/strong>, including, but not limited to, covering breasts or genitals with objects or censor bars.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We do not allow the visible outline of genitals, even if they are covered,” he continues. “The dissemination of naked or partially naked minors is always prohibited<\/strong>, regardless of the context. We ask those who present themselves as women to cover their nipples and not leave the lower part of the chest uncovered. The neckline is not restricted as long as these coverage requirements are met and it is clear that the streamer is wearing clothes<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n\n\n
