There were rumors that there would be more affected people, and that’s exactly what happened. After laying off approximately 1000 employees a few days ago<\/a>, Google<\/strong> is now cutting jobs in its advertising sales team. Google spokesperson, Chris Pappas<\/strong>, confirmed to The Verge<\/a><\/strong> that “hundreds of positions are being eliminated worldwide” as part of this restructuring.<\/p>\n\n

In a circular obtained by Business Insider<\/a><\/strong>, and coming from Google’s Senior Vice President, Philipp Schindler<\/strong>, the executive hinted that the layoffs would mainly affect the Large Customer Sales (LCS) unit<\/strong>, a team that sells ads to big companies, while the Google Customer Solutions (GCS) team, which sells ads to smaller clients, would become the “core” ad sales team.<\/p>\n\n\n

According to another article<\/a> from Business Insider, Google has already laid off some employees from its LCS team last October<\/strong>. “Every year we go through a rigorous process to structure our team and provide the best service to our advertising clients,” Pappas explained to The Verge. “As part of this process, several hundred positions are being eliminated worldwide and affected employees will be able to apply for vacant positions or elsewhere within Google.”<\/p>\n\n

This information would coincide with the details provided in an article<\/a> by Alex Heath<\/strong>, a subeditor at The Verge, who stated two days ago that last week’s layoffs would not be the last<\/strong>, and added that “the advertising sales group, consisting of approximately 30,000 people, is another natural target”.<\/p>\n\n\n

Google has already made drastic cuts in several parts of the company, affecting employees working on Pixel, Fitbit, and Nest products, as well as those in their engineering and Google Assistant teams.<\/p>\n\n

So far, Google has not yet revealed the total number of employees it has laid off this year.
