It seems that these are uncertain times for a large part of Google’s workforce<\/strong>. The company, which in recent weeks has experienced a massive wave of layoffs<\/a>, and in 2023 signed more than 10,000 severance agreements<\/strong>, anticipates that in 2024 things will not change much, and that jobs will continue to be destroyed<\/a> within the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google is one of the companies with the most employees in the world. With a figure close to 200,000 employees worldwide<\/strong>, it has all kinds of departments within its guts. However, as its CEO has announced, the company plans to continue laying off workers by 2024, leaving a desolate panorama<\/strong> in the current technology sector.<\/p>\n\n\n

Google will continue to reduce staff<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google<\/strong> currently, has been the one in charge of notifying the workforce that there are still more layoffs to be made within the company<\/strong>. And, as The Verge reveals<\/a>, these statements, made internally, aim to “eliminate margins to accelerate the maneuverability and execution of the departments that will be reduced”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the moment, it is unknown which departments Google plans to continue reducing<\/strong>, which means that many workers currently face the pressure and uncertainty of whether their job at the company is at stake. The company will announce the reductions in the departments it deems appropriate<\/strong> when they are ready, but employees will be left with their future plans up in the air<\/strong> until they know if their job is in danger or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The technology sector is affected<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many companies have carried out layoffs in the technology sector<\/strong> in the past 2023<\/strong>, and there haven’t been many clues to justify the direction of the entire sector towards workforce reduction<\/strong>. However, it is suspected that advances in Artificial Intelligence are also allowing maximizing profits by reducing human capital expenses<\/strong>, and companies will take full advantage of any opportunity to increase their dividends, even if it means leaving thousands of employees behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the past 2023, Microsoft also experienced a wave of massive layoffs<\/strong> within its offices, as did others like Discord, Twitch, Amazon Games<\/a>, Ubisoft, and many other companies that are massively laying off employees. This contrasts with the general idea that the technology sector is booming<\/strong>, since, although areas like security or Artificial Intelligence are growing, many others are being downsized<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n
